There’s no doubt that Rovio’s Angry Birds was one popular franchise back in the day. It’s no wonder that a bubble shooter adaptation would come out featuring three of the franchise’s popular characters and, of course, the pigs. That is what Angry Birds Pop is – a bubble shooter with your favorite birds duking it out with the iconic hogs that stole their eggs in the original game.
The amazing thing about this bubble shooter game is the variety that it introduces. You can play as Chuck (the Yellow bird), Stella (the cutesy female bird) and Red (the main bird in the original game). You can’t pick who you can play, however, because the level you play in determines which bird you’ll be controlling. In one level, you could be playing as Red. The next one, you’ll find yourself as Chuck or Stella, so on and so forth.
It’s not just a change of character; each character features its own challenge and gameplay. Red is very straightforward in the original game. He rams into the structures that the pig heads use to shelter themselves. Here in Angry Birds Pop, his job is simple. Bring the pigs down by popping off all the balls that surround them. You might have to take down as many as four pigs in each level.
Stella, on other hand, must collect butterflies. Butterflies can only be collected if she, through your control, pops bubbles all the way to the top of the pile. Stella’s gameplay is the easiest of the three, as it involves only shooting balls into the pile until a way is cleared to the top.
Finally, we have Chuck’s levels. Chuck’s missions are similar to Red’s, but have only one striking difference. There’s only one pig in Chuck’s levels, which are called “Piggy in the Middle,” by the way. The pile of balls surrounding the pig rotates after every turn. This is an attempt to keep you from bursting off all the bubbles that protect the pig, after which it will fall down.
Streaks are very important here. Getting a streak of four or more groups of bubbles will unlock the Color Pop. This is basically a bomb that you shoot at any group of balls that are keeping you from your objective – the Color Pop will destroy anything in its path upon impact.
An understanding of geometry will help you out here, as with any bubble shooter games. The difference, however, is that Angry Birds Pop has a very accurate guide that shows you where your ball will probably hit when you fire it.. This way, you can easily reach very difficult spots that require you to bounce your balls at an angle.
