Pastry Story is a very enjoyable match-3 game that doesn’t do anything to revolutionize the genre but it does present some of the most finely executed gameplay out there, lots of creatively designed levels and visuals that are above and beyond anything that previous match games have offered. In terms of gameplay, as mentioned before there isn’t anything groundbreaking about Pastry Story but it’s still worth playing because the gameplay shows a really high level of finesse. The game builds on the fundamentals of the match-3 genre and improves on them in various ways to deliver players a complete experience. In order to play the game you simply swap the places of two adjacent objects in a way that a match of at least three pastries is formed. Matching four or more pastries in the same turn will spawn special objects that can help reach your objective much quicker.
Of course there are also a whole bunch of different power-ups that you can make use of during the levels to get an edge that will help you progress further. Power-ups are very impactful but their availability is limited so you need to make every single one of them count by using them when absolutely necessary otherwise they’ll probably go to waste.
Going into the visuals, Pastry Story looks absolutely stunning. Although it’s a 2D game overall, the in-game objects have been designed in a way that gives them a really nice 3D touch which makes them a delight to look at. The animations and special effects are also solid and the sound effects do an excellent job of rounding everything off and making the experience more immersive.
As for micro-transactions, you’ll be able to use real world money to purchase different kinds of in-game power-ups and also extra moves if you run out during a level.
