Help the dragon kind to reclaim their lands from the suffocating Black Sky

Enjoy fun and challenging games of match-3 to earn energy which you'll need to complete quests

Hatch a variety of new dragons and restore various buildings as you play

Ever since the Black Sky occurred, it didn’t only make the entire dragon population vanished without a trace; it had also covered most of the land with a thick and suffocating fog, killing towns and cities across the land. Scaleville was hit particularly hard mainly because it’s a previously a town full of dragons. Thankfully, you and a local mage called Sang Po found what was presumably the last dragon egg among the abandoned ruins of the town.

Lo and behold! The egg hatched into the king of dragons. Maybe… just maybe there’s still some hope that you can best the Black Sky that blankets the land and perhaps help both the dragon population and the town of Scaleville recover.

Tiny Dragons is pretty much your run-of-the-mill match-3/simulation game where you’ll get to play endless levels of match-3 games, as long as you still have lives, just so you can earn enough energy to complete quests which will help you move the storyline along. This will in turn allow you to uncover new parts of the land or even hatch a new dragon.

Don’t worry though! Even if you’re not familiar with games like these, the in-game tutorial provided is more than enough to introduce you to the game. You’ll learn about the many different types of power-ups, which can be obtained by matching 4 or more fruits together.

For instance, by matching 4 fruits in a square shape will get you a firefly that works like a homing missile – it will clear away a piece of fruit that’ll ultimately help you complete your level goals. Matching 4 fruits in a row or column will get you the special fruits that can clear away entire rows or columns.

There’s even a match-6 power-up that you can get, which I like to call the “bulbous plant” mainly because it paints random nearby fruits into the color that it’s in. You can combine two power-ups together as well and watch as your board explode into various cool colors and effects! All of these power-ups are necessary because as you play, you’ll encounter increasingly difficult obstacles ranging from multiple layers of grass tiles, jelly, chains and more.

In addition to power-ups, the game, like many before it, provides a nice selection of boosts too. These are usually the last resort

You are also accompanied by a dragon you’ve unlocked for each level you play. Different dragons will provide you with a different extra, charged ability. You can charge it up by simply making combos and in return, once the bar beneath the dragon is charged up, you’ll get a free power-up.

Every level you’ve successful cleared will earn you an energy token. You’ll need these tokens to complete the many quests in this game, whether it is to clean away from shrubs and weed or to hatch a new dragon egg you’ve discovered. Similar to monster/pet-collecting games like Pokemon or Neopets, this game has a ton of dragons that you can hatch and add to your collection. However, since the game is ultimately not a pet-based game, you can’t really breed new species of dragons that’s not already added into the game. So basically, at the end of the day, you’ll get the exact same dragons as everyone else.

In terms of monetization, you can, naturally, spend real money to buy more lives as well as boosts and other advantages but not in a pay-to-win way. You can still clear most of the levels in the game without using any boosts, plus you can also earn free boosts from chests and also the daily login reward. You can also double your daily login reward by watching a video ad, but don’t worry - that’s entirely optional.

Tiny Dragons has some amazing graphics, and even by casual game standards, this game looks much nicer. The dragons are really cute-looking too. Couple that with the game’s fun sound effects and the nice background music, and you’ll get the whole package.

Tiny Dragons may have a really unique idea – collecting dragons – but it combined that with an unfortunately generic match-3/sim gameplay. Don’t get me wrong – this game is still really fun to play and is an amazing casual game, but it’s obvious that the game tries to innovate but somewhere in the middle, they decided to round things back to “familiar grounds”. Still, the game’s free to play and there’s none of that stressful leaderboard stuff here. Definitely worth playing if you’re looking for a new match-3 game for your phone! Tiny Dragons Summary
