Help Pete the Penguin to rescue his friends from the oil spill on the ice caps. By matching the coloured blocks together you can clear the oil on some of the squares. When all of the blocks are cleared you can finish the level.
To clear the oil you need to match a covered block with another 2 or more of its own colour. Once you do that block vanishes and more drop down from the top. Each level has a certain amount of oil that you need to remove.
If you match 4 or more blocks together you can create more powerful squares to blow up. Matching 4 in a line will create one that will blow up an entire line. Making an L or a T shape with 5 blocks will make a special block that will blow up everything vertically and horizontally. 5 in a row will allow you to remove everything of the same colour.
Mixing these special blocks together will also create even more powerful combinations. These will blow up a large selection of blocks, or turn all of 1 colour into lone blowing blocks. When you use a special block if it goes over an oiled block it will remove it as if you had matched them. Using these combinations together will help you get through some of the later levels.
Each level will award you points for every match that you make, and these points convert into stars. You need to get at least 1 start to finish the level and you can earn up to 3. Collecting stars will help you to unlock gates as you can open chests that contain keys. Each chest requires a certain number of stars.
As well as opening chests with keys you can also ask your friends for help to unlock an episode, or spend gems on the keys that you may be missing. You can also ask your friends for extra lives back if you are running out.
The gems can be used for a variety of things in Pengle, from buying extra boosters to permanently increasing your number of lives. You begin play with 10 gems, and they are purchasable for real money through the game.
As you play you will also unlock special boosters that will help you when you play, from removing a whole line of blocks to adding colour bombs that clear every block of the same colour. When you unlock a booster you will have a small number for free, and some can be bought for the coins you win in the levels or for gems.
Pengle has a really simple gameplay, with bright and colourful blocks to play with. Simply move a block in the direction you wish it to go. The flow of the game is very smooth and the levels progress at a nice pace, the difficulty does increase as you level, but its a good progression.
The boosters that you buy with gold can be very powerful as well as the ones you get with gems. It may be worth saving these special items for the levels you may find a bit more difficult.
